sciatica

I get it with various stages of acuteness. I've broken two lower vertabrae on two separate occasions. I can work ok but it really gets me walking around slowly such as a show or looking around a shop. The pain becomes so severe all I can do to relieve it is sit on the ground. After a short while I'm good to go for another ten minutes. Trouble is I've got knee trouble with ruptured tendons and getting up is another pain:001_smile:

I suffered sciatica badly around two and half years ago, it took me a long time to recover however what I found worked best was tree climbing and body thrusting!! It does improve core stability and muscles and seems to stretch out my back. The root cause of mine is a compressed spine through years of lifting, even correctly, in my previous job. I have to be careful how I bend and twist but have it under control now, touch wood.

I've had it for years and it's never gone away . If I stand at the splitter for a few hours at a time or drive for a few hours , I'm in agony and start to loose the feeling in my right leg . I've tried various pills and osteopaths and chiropractors .

Perhaps I should try and get to the bottom of it rather than trying to live with it .

If you lack mobility in the hip or shoulder, the spine becomes the hinge and compromises its stability, the disc can press on nerves. I feel my sciatic nerve in my calf, back of the hamstring and in the gluteus, I tried foam rolling, stretching etc, it was only when i started using a baseball for active release on either side of my lower spine that I managed to make a difference. Now I have learnt not to compromise my spine, the sciatica has mostly gone away.

If you watch this, you might get a good idea about how our spine can hinge and put pressure on the nerve structures.

You really need to understand first if it is a Sciatic nerve problem or a L5/S1 nerve impingement from a disk herniation.

As some of the stretches for sciatica only make the disk herniation pain worse.

Totally agree with that. I have got L5/S1 herniated disk, along with six above that, and another 4 in my cervical spine. Had lots of manipulation For sciatica, from docs and physio- problem was the disc they all missed.

Had nerve block injections, into l5s1, and ended up with permanent nerve damage in my left leg, lost my manual driving license, my hgv license and now walk with a crutch.

So anything other than mild sciatica, insist on an xray, mri or high resolution ct scan- before some tool decides what is best for you!!

Just saying.

After reading that I shall make an appointment to see the Doc. Done nothing about mine since my breaks years ago but the pain when walking now is getting unbearable.

Thanks a lot fellas. :)

I cant take opiate bases pain relief or diazepam because of a job i really want which is based a lot on U.S oil refineries and drugs of that nature are on the banned list (they do very meticulous drug testing) :(

Ill be giving a lot of thought to your suggestions and will be doing the stretches as soon as its not too painful.

Im goin to see my gp (hes a musculoskeletal specialist) first thing tomorrow morning and insist that he takes it a bit more further than handing me a script for analgesics and anti inflammatories
