im 21, saws, climbing kit, lowering kit, tickets, insurance, 3 years experience, do my own private weekend work as self employed, work 5 days a week for 2 different companies in Devon, on £60 a day for both of them! one has said if I switch and work 3 days a week for him (and 2 days a week for the other bloke) he will give me a £4 a day increase!!

That sounds pretty poor to be honest, I think you should be on a minimum of £100 per day. When I first started I was on £85.00 grounding and £115 climbing and that was 8-9 years ago.

That's bad, your not doing yourself or others in the industry any favours working at that rate. Do you use your own lowering kit for others or your own use?

I only use my own climbing kit and climbing saw, I also do not have insurance when working for others on an ad hoc self employed basis.

Things haven't really changed my day rate is £100 (mates) to £200 but my normal rate is between £120-140 I'm an experienced climber With 8 years behind me 5 of which I was a team leader at a big firm. If prices go up my date rate will go up. I'm actually leaving this freelancing business for a while and becoming employed. I usually make around £550-690 per week but take off tax, NI, repairs to saws (chains/bars are a big one), replace bit of climbing kit and PPE, also the time I'm not working and sending off invoices also planning for days off which you won't be paid for, chasing money owed and being expected to to dismantle the world in one day it's just not worth my while

I budget around £30 a week for replacement parts for my saws/PPE & climbing kit. You never know what's going to happen but what I do know is a pair of pants and boot will last around 12 months and divide the cost up it works out at around £7 per week
