not laurel, it's griselinia littoralis. but any timber burns when it's seasoned well. all the gases go up the flue, so stay off the roof!

:thumbup1::thumbup1:Yep Griselina not Laurel and yep if the fumes aren't going up the chimney you've probably got a problem whatever your burning.

The main problem is with laurel wood chip when it has been stood for a few days. Once it starts fermenting. Then once disturbed it can release some nasty spores. As for burning I agree with the rest of the guys, long as it is dry it will be fine. Just don't stick your face in the stove and breath the smoke.

I sold over 400 ton of laurel as firewood 2 winters ago; was nervous due to all the cyanide horror stories; they are just that. Yes there is some but 90% evaporated during seasoning. Dry laurel is excellent firewood so I found out.

Seconded. 2012 felt like I spent half my time working laurel - lots of good firewood from it.

rayzor, if you can stack your green wood outside in a breezy spot but under a lid it'll dry much faster than in a garage, honest. It's not the heat that dries it, it's the airflow: the last few weeks have done months' worth of seasoning to my woodpile, stacked as billets under a tarp.
