First of all , congratulations on your little one on the way!!! And thank you for your insight!!! I am now a owner of a Titan Pro 8 ton upright splitter ( petrol ) , had a quick play and so far so good - i have some 2 tonne to do , so that should give it a good run!!!!

Hello all , and thanks for your advice , just one more bit needed now please.. I have decided i would like a petrol / upright log splitter and have taken a liking to the Titan Pro . Thing is do i go for the 8 ton or the 10 ton??? The 10 ton is roughly £200 more but do i really need the extra force to split for home use??? Thanks , Ray..

Hi all , Hope you can help with some advice on purchacing my first log splitter!! I am not a tree surgeon or aborist so dealing with trees is not fulltime for me! But i do work for the local highways department ( trained chainsaw operative ) and get to deal with wind blown trees in the highway!!! So i have been looking at petrol driven splitters and the upright Titan Pro 8 ton and 10 tonner. Is there any others i should be looking at ( budget £1000 ) and do i need to go up to the 10 tons!! Although not the 4x4 version , I have driven these trucks for many years , 5 days a week for my company and we have a fleet of them - all used for highways maintence and dealing with wind blown trees!! Just my opinion - very good trucks , like others say they do pull well / the 3.5 tonner with 1 tonne of tarmac or wood with gear on board pulls well and the 5 tonner is a great truck too!!! Pretty reliable too!!

Hi all , Hope you can help!! I am new to this burning firewood and 12 months ago bought this as we got fed up of crappy economy 7!!! A contura wood burning stove:001_smile: My question to you is what with me being new to wood burning with a stove , i recently cut this up and i think its a Laurel ( but please correct me if i am wrong:001_smile: ).. just split it up ready for seasoning.. Know i have been told that if this is Laurel it gives off cyanide fumes and i have read not to use in a open fire - so my question is - is this safe to burn in my Contura stove when it is seasoned???? Your help will be most appreciated:thumbup:

Interesting read!!! I think its very much a double edged sword as in if you treat your workers right - you should be treated right back , its a shame that some people take the micky!! But as a Employer or employee its good to work in harmony if you can.. Good men / women workers are to be looked after , no workers= no job done or do it yourself and probably struggle!! As a employee you have your vehicle and equipment checks / PPE and planning for the job ahead in which gear to take!! Then there is the risk assessments before and when you get on site / which as we all know are changing all the time!!! Working on the highway , there is the Chapter 8 signing and guarding - if you are qualified and doing your own , this takes time planning and more risk assessments!!! Your break times including your wash times if you are to stay withing the law ( unless on emergency work ) have to be taken into account... After the job , to make sure all is safe , back depot to clean / sharpen / and make sure all kit is fit and secure for the next day!!! Surprising where the time adds up with it all , and some jobs employers expect to be done in the operatives own time - you go to work to earn a living and to remember a good work relationship goes both ways!! This business , if you dont like it sod off just means you will end up losing good men / women who will tell possible perspective employees to stay away!!! I have learn t in 27 years for working for one company that you soon learn who your good staff are and to look after them like they look after you!!

Well lads , Had a good look at the relevant threads and had a look at the new Husky 550XP at a local dealer and it looks a nice saw!! Problem is i still cant make my mind up whether to go for the husky or a Stihl MS 240 - 361??? I have been using the Stihl 240 at work so i know its pretty good but still tempted by the Husky - know of a Husky 550XP going second hand for £400 too!! Just want to make the right choice!! Hi All , I apologize if you have heard this question before!! I am thinking of buying my first chainsaw for harvesting wood , cant decide which of the new models to go for a husky or sthil - would definitely go for a forestry grade machine as i would like for it to hard wearing!! Shall be used on and off when timber is down in the woods and would not of thought timber will be real big trees as in over 45ft.. I am fortunate that in my work as a highways road worker we get wind blown trees which we have to deal with and have access to sthil MS 240 and a 441 - i really like the 240 and what with using at work with so many users too , its seems to be a hard wearing machine!!! Oh before you ask we are not allowed to use them for private use:confused1: I hear good things about husky too , so you more experienced people who are using them every day - could you help me decide please:001_smile: All the best , Ray.
