Spec req'd for planting a hedgerow

Does anyone have a spec's for planting a hedgerow or any tips on points to include?

The hedgerow is to be planted as a clause of a sale of a small corner of a field to a neighbouring property so we need a good specification to be included. Otherwise i could see the new owner sticking a few plants in the ground and claiming that as a hedge!

The original hedgerows in the fields are a mix of hazel, hawthorn, blackthorn and holly.

Is there a BS for hedgerow planting?

The hedge will need to be stockproof eventually but a stock fence will also be erected behind the hedge

What points should be included for the spec?

- 40-60cm rootball plants?

- what spacing?

- staggered or straight planting?

- what protction guards?

- mulch/weed control?

Any help much appreciated!

Agree with felix, 5 plants per metre in double staggered rows, rows 30cm apart & the plant 40cm apart . Just planted 300m of Native country mix. Hawthorn, Blackthorn, maple, hazel, spindle, wayfaring tree etc. But would stick to what is in the rest of the field. I used spirals and canes to stop the rabbits.
