That's about right big ammer £10 a week.As somebody told me the first hour of the week for free.Not much really when you think of it like that

put your foot down tell him whos the boss ,get some rules, if doesnt like it he can walk @ 22 hes still got some learning to do & @ the mo you wouldnt have any probs filling his place, i get the impression he thinks you need him more than he needs you ?

I'd imagine his insurance is going to be high for a few years!

 

If you don't sort something out with him now, and he stays with you it could cost you a few thousand in the long run.

 

I certainly think you're being reasonable asking for the extra. But don't forget about next year, and the year after etc....

He's our first employee it's been a steep learning curve!At the end of the day it's our business and he's making it harder for us to stay afloat.Have any other of you guy's out there been in a similar situation?

I always tried to look out for the lads who worked for me and on the whole nobody took the rise. However, you are in business for yourself and your family, if HE wants to jeopardise his future through drinking and driving and you income then he needs to make amends. Roof, food, new van etc all have to be paid for out of your profits not his salary, which is fundamentally wrong. Ask him if you can have your money back and start all over again.

A job with lodgings and food. Where do I sign up? I'll pay the extra insurance soon as I've got a few points on my licence. In fact I'll bring my van up! I've offered this when I've applied for jobs that have stated clean licence. Most don't want to know. I think your being very reasonable.

i have been in business for 10 years now, the first lad i started, was a nightmare. the first week, i had to pay over 400quid tax contributions because of the time of year he started and some mix up with his last employer, he agreed on the wage and moaned every day he was out, every monday morning it would be another excuse why he was late or knackered, but was all because he was out getting drunk all weekend, i took on 3 gardening jobs for him on satuardays so he could get extra money, guess what, he never turned up one day, wouldnt answer any calls, he had got a new job and didnt bother telling me and i was stuck doing 3 old grannies gardens for a summer. i have employed loads of guys and most throw it back in your face, the nicer you are the more the wrong kind of guy will take advantage. get a contract drawn up and use it as the rule book, it makes it simple. i would bag him now save you the grief in the future.

About sums it up...If he can't meet you somewhere halfway then you should lose him. He is lucky to have a job.
