Why is everyone obsessed with towing?

 

If you need a chipper that weighs more than 1000kgs, you need something a bit bigger than a Transit to chip into!

 

I have 115 PS D/C tipper on an '06 plate (ie old shape), and it's nearly perfect (apart from obvious off-road, weight restriction issues).

 

Geared a bit low for me - I'm empty 1/2 the time, so it's pretty revvy.

 

New shape has better aspirated engine with 6-speed box. If your lucky you'll get one with a quad bench in the back which doubles as a tool locker.

 

Go for it mate. Cost you, mind.

If you do domestic jobs a d/c tranny and chipper will have the hopper in mrs bloggs driveway and the Ford badge at the other side of the road.

 

Its a long rig and I believe there are issues with the axle weights.

 

Mwb tranny with a tool box is better and shorter.

 

If you do commercial stuff you need to run a bigger truck or take another vehicle on site.

I would say a Iveco Daily single or crew cab tipper would be a good choice. I used to drive one at my old work and pulled a Jencen A530Di with no problems and I also had the 2.8l swb van and loved it had a good powerful engines and did not have too many problems with it either.

Have heard the Iveco's are ok as well.

 

Yes the D/C is a bit long, but 90% of our work is domestic and we manage.

 

If you buy a single cab,you spend half your day loading/unloading gear. I know, I used to have one.

 

There isn't a single vehicle out there that is perfect for every tree job. Think about the main type of work you will be doing and choose accordingly.

 

I'm off to buy a Smart car and a B&Q garden shredder...
