If there is a split, the impulse is still there, weak but it's still there! As for the air leak, the mixture leans out, so the revs rise and the carb compensates by richening the mixture, hence the black plug! This continues until the limit on the carb is reached and the saw then seizes. The repair itself is straight forward, but the carb will need resetting as it will be very rich.

Now before anyone asks why the plug wasn't white, if the OP has left the screen in, or the saw has been used a fair bit between the initial repair and the seize, there may be an exhaust blockage that resulted in a seize from a now over-rich mixture, but I have seen over-carboned plugs that have leaned out, and unless you look hard, it looks completely black

Im running my 550 on super unleaded and the highest grade husqy oil just incase I do have any issues. I dont want to give them a chance to question the warranty.

If you were to run Aspen2 then they would be fine with the fuel and oil. They recommend Aspen.

I had 2 saws go down after using fresh BP. Tanker was still in the garage when I bought it. Hmmmmm

My 550 has gone in with what i fear maybe the same issue.

 

Fuel came from BP too think there was a bad batch.

If a gallon of fuel killed 2 saws, then the supplier of the petrol should potentially compensate you, after having sold poor quality fuel.

Have you spoken to Esso, and sent them a sample of the mix?

It wasn't just the saws playing up I have a 4 stroke blower and other 2 stroke tools that didn't run right and weren't getting full revs after I used that batch of fuel. But the fuel is oki again
