550 seized up today

Guess these new saws really do need to run on aspen!

 

my year old 550 seized today, been back to dealer 5 times since new for poor running etc. plug was blackish. Back with the dealer again now! have to await the bad news.

 

My new 441 has been back at least 4 times now also. Im worried i will have piston/pot damage to this saw also.

 

All my other older gear seams to run fine on the same fuel (bp unleaded with oregon oil) never had a problem till now.

 

Would you get anywhere complaining to bp about bad fuel?

Black plug would suggest over rich mixture, not lean mixture. For lean running the plug would be white.

no sorry the 441 has not seized. I'm just worried that scoring might have happened.

 

The 441 was running fine for at least 2 months till it just stalled mid cut. Had to have a new carb under warranty, since then just has not been running well, keeps stalling at idle, top end speed is not as high as it was. been back to dealer lots of times.

 

just thinking this might be down to fuel also.

That's not a fuel problem its a bad saw problem

Are u sure the mix was good? ie deffo 50:1?

Im not familiar with oregon 2 t oil, do they have a range or just the one option?

I have heard on the grape vine that the Oregon oil is a bit pants. Think it was on here.

Did read on here somewhere that the Oregon oil is not recommended for modern High revving saws . Don't know if its a mineral oil but I would always use a synth oil in those /.

I would swap to stihl oil if I where you. Stihl 2 stroke rules.

I would look as much at that as the fuel you use.
