20hp grinders are a waste of time imo, to big to lift onto the back of a truck, but not big enough to make a difference

1. Why lift one when they can drive themselves up a set of ramps as ours does every other day...?

2. Every horse makes difference, take the 27hp HB20 which punches above it's power for weight.

can you chuck yours onto of a load of chips and timber?

didn't think so

ive had many grinders from small petrol to large diesel 4wd machines

my favourite to date is the carlton 900

Sorry will have to disagree with the above...20hp and above generally come with hydrostatic drive making it much less effort to grind.

Sure enough the 13hp narrow access have there uses ie through houses and very tight access.

But there is not a lot I can't do with my Dosko 20hp!!

I agree with Ty,

I have a 13hp and a 25hp pedestrian grinder and the 25hp one will keep running when its caked in mud under the flywheel housing, the 13hp one just stalls when it's caked.

 

It also helps having driven wheels so you don't have to keep pushing/pulling, just swing it.

 

And yes it can be driven up ramps.

 

No doubt a few of the macho brigade will say anything under a billion HP is for wimps but I van say we make loads of dosh out of our grinders and we are still alive.

Wee grinder goes out with truck.

Whilst truck is being unloaded it's grinding.

Truck comes back for grinder.

OR if less local.

One vehicle tows chipper other vehicle driven by ground takes the grinder.

What's complicated about that?

I've used smaller rentals from 13-18hp and a 27hp HB20 is huge leap forward.

Next purchase is a 35hp+ machine but we'll still run the wee grinder.

Works for me and I've the $$$ to show it too!

I should also add that for 2-3k you will get a dog of a 20hp machine. 2k will get you a decent carlton 900

If all your stumps are proper wee articles then by all means.

Every tool has it's place I'll grant you that but I personally wouldn't want to be grinding for more than a couple of hours with that machine even at the level I was 3 years ago.

A 25/27hp machine REALLY earns some coin and enables the user to grind with profit ALL day.

Stumps that belong to the 13hp category are from trees felled by gardeners and these jobs I don't get.
