Too right charlie, a mate of mine who works in london got charged by a squirrel whilst he was doing a tree at the houses of parliament, he clattered it with his 200t and it landed on the chipper feed chute just as the groundie was shoving an armful of brash in:001_tongue: they found the tail stuck to the headboard of the van:saint:

The squirrels around here would tear you to pieces if you tried that, lol.

 

Reminds me of working at a golf course in the 80s - a greenskeeper got close to a squirrel crossing the fairway, and the squirrel launches at him and starts a Tasmanian Devil attack. Geez - never seen anyone flail and shake their arms and legs like that before, to shake the critter. A few seconds later the squirrel ran one way, and the worker the other.

I took a baby squirrel home once, it had,nt opened its eyes so I guess it was about ten days old. The wife hand reared it and called him Reg. We donated a spare room to him and had rope hanging everywhere, I even dragged branches in for him. He was so friendly and fun to watch. Handed him over to a sanctuary after six months so he could be with others.

 

Sorry to revive a long dead thread, but any tips on how your lady hand reared it?

 

I reduced a small maple yesterday, with a drey (sp?) in the top. When I got close a squirrel ran out, but it was right at the top and I couldn't get high enough to check for young uns, to I hand held and cut the top, and the squeaking started. 3 young, with closed eyes. I moved it to a bit of undergrowth in the hope that the mother would find it, but I did contemplate taking them home...

Unfortunately I think you will find 3 to be a problem. You need at least 10 of the little tender ones to make a meal

Iv had this problem with seagulls before. A chick had fallen near me when I was strimming and I was attacked by 4 very angry seagulls.
