Volkswagen Amorak or maybe something different!

Hi all,

 

I am looking into upgrading to a Volkswagen Amorak, or maybe something different.

 

At the moment I've got a Mazda B2500, on a 2001 plate.

 

My choices are either:

 

> Volkswagen Amorak

> Ford Ranger

> Toyota Hilux

> Mitsibushi L200

 

I like the look of Nissan Navaras but from what I've been told and from what I've read they are too unreliable, and are costly to repair.

 

I would like your opinions on which one is best for all round driving - including on and off road, town and motorway driving, mpg, towing, reliability, prices, etc etc.

I think the Ranger would score high in most of what you've asked for bud.

I do like the look of that vw but haven't really heard much about them, think there more of a city truck than off road.

If its the new ranger they've gone back to south Africa for the engine build I've been told and pretty impressive, also the height clearance is higher than most

Been very happy with my Navara, had it 4 years with no major issues, average maintenance costs probably £800 a year.

 

If you tow heavy trailers though I'd look at ranger or d max.

All the bills from the garage, annual service and mot mostly, the only biggish item was rebuilding one of the rear half shafts, which was preventable really but I didn't spot it in time.

Howdy Will,

 

I'm doing similar research just now, findings:

 

Best but expensive: New Ranger, although (2.2) 150 engine seams a bit light for a big truck. (3.2 looks good)

 

Best all rounder: D-Max strong build quality good engines tows lots well.

 

Best for a businessman come family man: L200 long bed.. Only truck with big carrying space and double cab..but they are well....eh..rather long

Yes, I am, but I'm looking to buy within the next 5/6 months. And it won't be too much drama to change the winch to the next truck.
