Man riding on a crane.

I've got a rush job to do on the roof of a factory, I've worked on this site before and always had pedestrian access on to the roof. The problem I've got is the factory is having a lot of work done blocking my way on to the roof. Can I man ride on the crane without being in a cage? The reason I ask is the gantry is between two pitched roofs and I don't think the crane driver will get me close enough for me to get out of the cage and on to said gantry.

I think it will be the crane companies and or drivers decision. Having said that, I've never done a crane job where I haven't been set in on the hook.

If you are doing it, check carefully the hook for sharp edges before you tie onto it, seen those before too!

i done it the other week and just used a false crotch with a bite on it to save any sharp edges on the rope

Use an appropriate work positioning or fall arrest system, use a 3 way locking hook, LOLER cert within the last 6 months, crack on.

I have ridden the hook before, if the crane is lolered for carrying people in a basket then it is lowered for carrying a man in a harness so long as the harness is lolered too.

Show me some black and white evidence that its allowed in the uk, im going by what ive looked up on the net and what ive been told by the drivers.
