New Mower sub £700

Looking to get a new mower for the new season as my current mower is almost as old as I am and the grass collector is only 30l.

Was looking at a Mountfield SP555 as it comes in within budget but was also the Which Mower last year or maybe the one before. It is a domestic mower rather than a pro one but I haven't seen a pro one within my budget. Does anyone have any suggestions for other mowers or experience with these higher speced Mountfields (from my understanding the cheaper Mountfields are Italian but the more expensive ones are Stiga?)

Thanks in advance.

Got my eye on a Hayter R53A smaller 55L grassbag though. The mountfield has a very respectable spec especially aluminium body and honda engine. Got a few hayters but have used a small masport for the last couple of seasons which is alot lighter.

Viking mowers are really good or the money! I have used one commercially for 3 years in the whole time I have had it I have serviced once and put 3 new blades on it totalling £70. It's only a 17" mower with a rear roller for stripes but it is a1. It gets used in housing estates and small gardens where a big mower is awkward.

Sent via postman pat.

The Mountfield Sp555 is indeed from the Stiga stable and is excellent value at around £569, the first things to wear out will be the plastic wheels.

Stiga's own PRO55 4S is a better bet as it has the same chassis, but benefits from AV mounts, 4 speed transmission and metal wheels with precision ball bearings, but falls outside your price bracket at £899 retail

For around that money you can have a Kaaz or JD,

Stiga's new model Turbo Power 53SB is an excellent value 53cm mower with ally deck and Briggs 675XVS 190cc engine, with double ball bearing wheels and will set you back £559.

I have sold several of these and they have been fine. They are complete with mulch kit.
