Personally I think climbing past your forties, when your very experienced is no problem, learning in your forties could be a very different thing.

I'd agree with that. It's very tiring trying to learn because every muscle in your body is tensed up in anticipation of your imminent fall to the ground. In your 40s with experience climbing is easier than grounding most of the time. I'm 43 and climb every day but I proper skive out of dragging much brash.. and lifting logs? forget it. I feel fitter than ever but any muscle injuries you do get seem to take a lot longer to disappear. I'm thinking of getting that Ryan Giggs Fitness DVD.

I did Cs 38 at 48, fitness was important! I've met climbers in their 30's who think they are past it, and some in 50's who still enjoy climbing.

Im 56 and recon I've slowed down. My son does all the climbing, along with Spoons on some occasions. I feel I'm covered in cobwebs, as I don't climb much, like having to think about which way to flick the rope round the anchor point so everything lines up the way I want.

I could earn my living climbing but only just. I still think my experience in the rigging systems counts for a lot though.

I'd say if I can't quite hold my own, I could maybe hold someone else's.

My school report would probably read, 'He tries hard but the limits are becoming more obvious as the years pass by'
