I just got a copy of the gerald beranek poster where there 150ft up felling out the top at over 7ft though on boards love any thing related to old growth trees where ever in the world

 

The biggest top taken ever.

'Rockport' in Gerrys book 'High Climbers and Timber Fallers'.

 

An expensive book, but an unbelievable experience.

 

Buy it.

Don't fall out guys, it's not worth it! It happens sometimes, and I have certainly fallen foul of it myself on subjects I've been passionate about.

 

It's a great pic and thanks for sharing. The guy is just saying you "could" get caught out by copyright, and good on him for mentioning that.

 

Is it an unintended consequence of forum etiquette that people feel obliged to respond to every comment even if they don't agree or worse think its BS?

 

Not 100% sure I should have bothered typing this but hey, it's a discussion forum if anyone disagrees I don't have to reply! ):0)

Usual practise is to mention at the bottom of pictures or quotes the originator, so that others can see where it came from, ie "pics courtesy of national Geographic" or whatever. It's a superb picture, and I believe should be shared amongst interested parties to discuss climbing techniques, or tree size/shapes. I see no problem of the pic being on the forum, such a quality shot enhances the forum. Arguing, does not.

Understood for future posts, as said before the picture came of the Facebook page 'Earth Porn'. Some truly amazing pictures on there all probably stolen from somewhere else! 😣

Some of you probably have it on your bookshelf.

 

Earth Porn probably got it "word of mouth" via Nat Geo's website, because they've posted photos from the article on their site before, including the spotted owl photo that was in the same magazine article.

 

Actually, the article starts with the owl photo, with it's wings spanning all the way almost edge to edge of Page 28 and 29.

 

The two climbers in the redwood photo are Marie Antoinne, Prof. Steve Sillett's wife, and Giacomo Renzullo, who helps them with various projects. Giacomo is probably one of the climbers in the somewhat well-known composite redwood portrait of 84 photos which Nat Geo spent 3 weeks on.
