I have never known it to be used in joinery , it is quite soft and dents easily, I am one of the only people I know who uses it for woodturning , and would be very interested if you were not so far away, do not leave it sat around for too long as it discolours, spalts and rots rather quickly !!

Iv never seen a Chestnut with that many burrs.

I have never use chestnut for making anything, as said soft and not durable.

So no ideas from me, but seems a shame to log it.

I've turned bowls with it before (although not as nice as Slackbladders :) ) The trunk itself looks great as it is , shame to cut or mill, but certainly don't waste it. My first reaction when you said ideas welcome was to say give it away to a good home :) but seriously I'm sure you can get something from it.

I definitely won't log it up I got plenty of other wood for logs. Ive had and used chestnut burrs before on the lath before, but can't possibly turn it all. I was thinking perhaps chunky coffee tables?
