I did some tree work for a customer a few months back & he seasoned all off his logs in a huge victorian greenhouse, & I thought what a blinding idea, eco friendly, quick seasoning. Just wondered if anyone else does.

Sadly I don't have a huge Victorian green house .....:001_smile:

a free flow of air is key to seasoning wood, so all you need is something to keep the rain off, but let the air flow through.

So if the greenhouse is particularly draughty it might be OK, but suspect that more than likely the greenhouse will probably suffer from condensation and the wood will get a bit mouldy inside the stack.

We use our polytunnels as solar kilns and it works very well. I would be wary of using a glasshouse as any breakage of glass is impossible to get out of the logs as a member on here found to his cost with storm damage.

The logs are for his own use & so condensate dosen't form the roof vents are left open.

The nursery poly tunnels are a fab idea.

I store mine in an old canvas car port with air flow at both ends & gets super warm in the summer.

I also use my greenhouse for personal logs. I tend to put them in there after they have been outside for a few months initially. I leave the vents open all year round and don't tend to get any condensation. Seems to work well.

Like others have said its the air flow that does it and if the vents arn't open or a extractor fan your gonna get mold. It's also worth thinking about contamination ie broken panel and glass in the wood. Polly tunnels are where it's at :)
