Hi all, i`m still studying my level 2 and doing the cs modules, all while i work full time, obviously i`m now realising how much outgoings arborists must have for equipment, fuel , and so on.

There seems to be a lot about these days maybe i`m just noticing the signage more, but is everyone in profit ?

I don`t need figures just are you all doing well, just surviving ?

I`m putting everything into my course and am enjoying it but just curious as to the average earning potential of a small but busy arborist.

cheers

guys

Its purely a vocation IMO. There are very few rich tree surgeons.

Those that have done very well have won very large tenders and surrounded themselves by experts in many diverse fields.

It depends what you want out of life.

Profit margins are 12-25% in most cases. Thats annually, to win some jobs main clients are going much lower. I've seen 7% just recently!

Business growth is expensive but always making a profit on the jobs, I wouldn't get out of bed if there wasn't money in it.

There's always something to buy out there, you might want it but do you actually need it?

Consider purchases, keep figures tight and always keep on top of paperwork when it comes to knowing your monthly income, outgoings and profit margins per month.

Very good advice, I wish I could learn from it. My paperwork is a mess.

There are times where all I seem to be doing is paying for metal and paying everybody else. Onwards am upwards as they say!!

If you don't keep an eye on the figures you could be doing the wrong things every month for years. Turning good work away and buying kit to make crap work pay

Very true. Having gone through my figures I now realise I HAVE GOT to get my overheads down. And certain items of machinery are not earning their keep.
