Real world heating cost

We have a 27kw Hunter does 4 rooms via rads, & DHW, and an Esse Ironheart range in the kitchen, all on wood as a bag a day of coal at £10 a bag is not cost effective.

 

When I did my back in I couldn't process any wood for almost a yr, cost us best part of 2 grand at £175 per 2.5M3 load that year.

I have, since this morning, made enquiries about a Ground Source heat pump installation under the RHI scheme.

This despite already being accepted for the RHI/biomass boiler.

But being unsure if i wish to continue to be a slave to a boiler, hence my continued reluctance to committ.

With the underfloor/GSHP providing background heat and the Morso providing "spot" heat.

Keeping the economic oil fired boiler for domestic hot water and backup.

Then flog me sticks for cash.

What do you reckon the costs would be to heat your home via logs ?

 

Once my burner is lit, it burns 24 hours a day. Over night it burns on tick over and also when no-one is in the house we have it on tick over.

 

I,ve been keeping tabs on how much we use and I reckon if we had to buy our logs, it would be cheaper to run on gas

 

I estimated £10 per day in logs to heat our home

For the last 2 years I've done the maths on what the saving/costs of log burning

we have the stove on from 4 until bed time and don't have the central heating on at night only in the morning

logs burnt 5 cu mts = £250 ish luckily all from work

cost of gas saved £80

it would be easier just to work a Saturday to pay for the extra gas and not bother with the stove

but the stove is a lot more cosy than a radiator

Around £600, 6 1/2 cubes a years worth for me in wood to supply hot water and room heat. But I burn my rubbish grade firewood. Which if I had to get a skip in it would cost £200 probably

Hi goaty that's what dads has all the rubbish wood i burn hard wood on my stove but only rubbish bits thanks Jon
