Is it time to replace my 200t

I've got an old 200t and it runs well.....but then some days it suffers the dreaded reving up issues. Its unpredictable and its been looked at twice without success. Is it time to retire this saw with the help of ebay and purchase a nice shiny Husky t540xp. I need a reliable saw for professional use and can't afford the hassle of being let down.

I've considered getting a new carb fitted to my 200t but think its just throwing good money at bad kit. I've only ever used one Husky before (357xp) and it felt like a widow maker at the time but I was quite inexperienced.

I've read all the threads and some people still rate the 201t and some still slate the t540.

So where should a spend my 500 quid?:001_rolleyes:

As soon as something like that starts to go wrong with a small two stroke machine, it's time for a new one IMHO.

Life is so much easier now all my two stroke kit is under two years old, save for extremely lightly used kit like the post auger. Now I just need to get the mower (almost done it :001_cool:) plus the digger and tractor (no hope!) to the same status.

I'm sort of comparing this one to a couple of old cars I had years ago. The first was a BMW 3 series which was always in the garage and cost £90 just for a diagnostic check. It was however built with care and precision. The other was an Audi 80 Avant B4 which was never in the garage, always started and was easy to fix at home. One was designed in the 90's on in 2000+

Its going to be really interesting to see if the 540 can stand the test of time as well as the 200t has.

I'm going to buy a husky though, just to make all my other saws worried!

I would save your money & start with the 'piston pump mod', or send it to Spudulike to freshen up, unless the saw is generally worn out.

although there are other saw repair shops..

can donate your old 200t to me if you like, will give it a good home.

a pump piston mod will always not work, depends if this is the issue, but as he has said he is going to buy something else i guess he is not after it being fixed.

just looking for something to replace it with.

i havnt seen the husky at work but have seen the 201 and the 150, both imo worked great, the 150 does what it says on the tin, its a pruning saw. the 201 is more of a topper but dont compare it to a 200t as it will dissapoint and you will not be happy, think of it as a new saw and you will be fine. if this makes sense.

The piston pump mod is a good place to start, & often is the problem, especially if the fault is erratic, me if the rubbers in the carb are all ok,& the crank seals good & the fault is hard to trace, I would think abut an 020 carb, the ms200 loves them!:001_smile:
