I've used my own silky to cut myself out of a nasty situation. I also have a petzl sparta on my harness just in case my silky fell out of the sheath and I needed it if things got dodgy.

Belt and braces I guess

Edelrid green and black folding knife. Razor sharp and has a useful serated section to the blade. Lives in my chainsaw trouser leg pocket zipped up. Used to use a petzl spatha but found the edge a bit dull. That said it still did the job!

Small bahco folder in my harness 1st aid kit, and Swiss Army knife in my pocket. Just the knife though, not one with bottle openers and Geiger counters etc on it.

I should swap for a knife that allows one handed opening. Anyone got any experience with "assisted opening" knives?
