What was it about the job that had you in the harness all day? What happened? How did the rescue go? You might not want to say which is cool but would love to hear more about it.

it was the access,on foot only.big holly oak .very windy.dead wood etc.....

the boss decided we should both be ready as i agreed.he got a clout in the face and needed help down.the wind basically had him. he was down within 2 minuets and away from the tree.

not the best day we have had but made use of my ascender and spikes that day,i had the spikes on super quick as there velcro strapped and just skipped up the tree to him with a strop.funny we discussed it the other day and that was 10 years ago .....

so just 1 rescue in 10 years so far.....:thumbup1:

I find It makes me look at the other climber and think he's going quicker than me an makes me step it up a bit haha

Presumably your talking about repollarding, thinking about this today and on a few occasions there's been a couple up there on wide conny hedges etc to help throw the bits.

how many people have a spare set of spikes in the event of a resuce???

we dont but i often think we should.

i would be very relunctant to climb without a second climber and kit onsite, but i cant see how one could have a dedicated man just on standby not moving away from the tree, surley just not practicle.

any groundie worth their salt wil be able to keep the site clear and own a pair of spikes,a must in the job in our book,no need to stand all day but just be ready and aware if out of sight of the climber..
