daughter was saying she saw on news that 5000sq mtrs of standing larch is going to be felled due to being infected. by a airbourne organism said that if this was the case it would have been on this site .as thata is as bad as ash die back. the report was saying that imported timber as going to be banned. little to late again if this is the case. and the bark is going to be sent for biomass to burn it to kill the bacteria.

The report was about an old wood near Newport in South Wales. They said that once felled and the bark removed the timber would be good for fence posts etc. I don't remember anything about a van though, horses and gates spring to mind.

i was felling diseased larch down the neath valley for a company a few years back,seems to be hanging about

It's either that or leave it to rot in the wood. It won't just be FC either, everyone will be felling, extracting and selling their infected larch.

This has been happen for years now, we were felling infected Larch for the LA 2 years ago.

Not likely to stop any time soon either as the infection seems to keep spreading.

The only real upshot re this clear felling is that the deer numbers will jump up rapidly as new growth emerges and a more aesthetic mixed forest can be re planted...sorry to see it go, Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
