I've had a couple and liked them. Like has been said, can get stuck on a cowpat and are slow (older ones). Though they are reliable and get in drives easily. Pros and cons. Great first arb truck i'd say.

We've got a new one. 3.5t payload and will also pull a 3.5t legally. Gross train of 7t. Loads of power will pull a trailer up hill in top gear. Smaller than most vans and so will fit where most won't. As for getting stuck? If you take any 2 wheel drive off road you'll be asking for trouble. Really good mpg and services every 18k. I'm suprised some are saying don't buy one...? If you value your driving licence and don't want to spend on diesel then this is for you. We paid 14k for ours new 4 years ago and we're still waiting for it to go wrong.

Sounds good Warner, my budget is significantly lower than that, there's a few on some sites for just under £4k, but they are few and far between, and in most cases over 100 miles away, the search continues

Had them for 25 years.

The older ones had terrible ride but were bombproof though the steel truck bodies tended to rust from day one.

Now got the latest independent cab which makes them nicer to drive but we're having EGR issues and a cracked manifold just cost £700 to replace.

Carry wise, they're fantastic.

3 in a cab- they are shall we say.....................intimate:001_smile:

after my first year chipping into my hilux I treated myself to an 06 cabstar to run along side it and love it, I built my own chip cage in a weekend and got it sign written the next and it rearly improved the look of my outfit id definatly say try and get the best you can afford rather than going bargin basement. try to find a 3lt turbo as they rearly do pull much better than the 2.5s. and as has been said they rearly are brilliant at manuvering an I think they can actually carry more weight than a tranny unless someone can correct me? my only grip is that parts are eye wateringly expensive because patten parts arnt available ( at least for my 06 plate) good luck with your serch :)

Really? 3.5 tonne gross vehicle weight surely?

How much does it weigh empty?
