For those who use the hitchclimber do you use it all the time or only on certain jobs? (and dont someone say "yeah on jobs were I climb trees" )

 

All I am wondering is, is it a hindrance on certain types of work or is it something that once you try you wonder how you climbed without one and use it no matter how big, small, easy or awkward the job is.

I think all in all there’s been a lot of informative posts on this thread explaining the use of oval biners, yours included Rupe, and I particularly liked Jibos use of bootlace as a prussic , very educational, you never know when something like that might come in handy,

Good for everything where you would use a friction hitch. But never take it into sticky conifers. Hitchclimber kiss kiss bang bang.

ok, im treating myself to the whole set-up from tree-worker about time i moved on from a VT!

 

also ordering new hitch cord, going for ocean polyester for my yale scorch (aprox 13mm) do i want 8mm or 10mm?? (slight de-rail, but some wheels still on track!)

I think if you use a vt then a hitchclimber is an improvement that you wouldn't want to go without, but you may decide to climb a tree one day using a prussik (conifers) and then you wouldn't miss the HC cos your climbing in a different way anyway.

 

I like to climb using a helical sometimes and I don't use a HC for that, I don't think you need it, if its possible or if it would work very well. For VT's though I wouldn't go without it, and I had HUGE trouble with it at first due to the weird rope allignment (tail end of rope comes down ontop of the vt instead of left or right as per normal krab/pulley VT set up)

Been running my VT/HC set up with arborsafe crabs, and have had no problems, but if this little oval fella is going to make it even better then I think I better invest.

 

Agree with JJG about conifers. Manky old rope and blakes come out for those.

I'm just a simple man with a prussik atm, maybe the vt is my next step (when I find out what it really is)
