What a coincidence, so have I. I thought I'd try the office posted in another thread on here and they called me back and asked a few questions, they said it was unlikely that I'd get insurance as we spend too high a percentage of our time climbing above 6m. I asked why different offices give different quotes and was told that they all work to the same system. The cheap quotes that people are getting are on a general landscaper type policy and if you spend less than 50% of your time climbing you will get cover, I said we do 65% at height and was declined.

I suppose you could make up any percentage that you want and get cheap cover but I don't know how they go about checking in the event of a claim and am not interested in chancing it. If you are doing full time tree surgery work and don't do much felling or hedge work then this is probably not for you, likewise if you are a contract climber.

You can have any height, but not if you work at height all the time.

:confused1: Who is at hight ALL the time :confused1:

They asked me how much of my time I was spent over 80' I said not more than 50%, as even on a very large take down or a day of dead wooding large trees I ain't gonna bet above 80' for more than half the time.

Even on a big takedown it wont be 80' past ten o clock!

Even as a contract climber, I reckon I only spend an average of 4-5 hours a day climbing. Thats only 50%. The rest of the time is taken up with driving, carrying kit in and out, helping tidy up, chainsaw maintainance, and paperwork.

Calculate the number of staff on a job, and you'll find the actual man hours at hieght are significantly lower than 50%.

My policy with them specifically states Tree Surgery, not landscaping.

The plot thickens.

They never mentioned 80' to me, just 6m which I think we go over about 60% - 70% of the time. They didn't specify man hours so maybe we'd be ok. :confused1:
