I went into a comunity liasion office back home to renew my Firearms licence, there was an old Dear sitting behind the desk.

"I'd like the forms to renew my Firearms licence please" I asked

"Oh no,you have to be a Fireman to drive a fire engine" she replied.

I nearly wet myself laughing.

Yeah, I've had one before and it is just a bunch of locals in high-viz with a speed gun. They just forward it to the filth then they write to you. As they (the filth) didn't actually see you, they can't prosecute.

But you've got humans instead of ****** cameras behind a piece of kit that's only a guide and who are affected by your behaviour (because they live there) politely asking you to moderate your behaviour.

Which would I prefer: 'please be more considerate in future' (no penalty) or 'have £80 & 3 points on us'?

A no brainer for me.

I'd prefer the warning.

A few years ago i was stopped as part of a routine random check. The PCs checked the car over and confirmed that the car was fine, until they asked to see my screenwash. i pushed the button and the last dribble of screenwash squirted out. The PC said sorry first of all then went on to tell me that having no screenwash is an offence. I asked if i could go over the road and ask to get some water out of someones house so i could top it up. The PC said he had his targets to meet and i was unlucky. I got a £30 on the spot fine.

did i feel safer knowing there was one less criminal on the streets? No.

Sure they might catch someone with a vehicle that is falling to bits but it stank of revenue generation and meeting targets.

The bad catch is that if they reduce crime they won't be able to meet their crime reduction targets.

There was a good program on radio 4 the other day about targets culture in the public sector, but thats off topic now.
