Nissan Cabstar Hydralic Ram Adjustment

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone knows on here if there is any adjustment on a 57plate 3.5ton Nissan Cabstar hydraulic tipper ram. The ram operators fine but when it on the last ram it struggles to push out to the top and we have to get the back of the chip box to help slide the chip off.

Just wondering if there is a adjustment screw or knob you can turn to improve the flow of hydraulic oil to reach the maximum output

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

sounds like its low on oil or pressure relief valve sticking open, normally found on the side of the pump body, some are ajustable.

If the PR valve were open (unlikely, see below) the body would hardly move and if it had a bit of dross under it as they sometimes do, the body would lift but the ram would start to drop as soon as the motor stopped.

Titing about with a PR valve is a bad idea particularly on an older system where the flexi hose may not be the newest.

If the flexi bursts the body will come down at speed. Most PR valves on tippers are cartridge type with pre set springs and not adjustable for this very reason.

Most likely is you need to adjust the amount of chip your putting in.

Try tipping it empty, if it wont fully extend you need more oil, if it tips all the way empty then you need less weight on it.

But you cant say that to a tree surgeon...........

Is this a standard factory fit tipper, or an after market one. Is it tipmaster, ingimex, britt tip or vfs, sometimes called scatollini. The ram needs most power to start to raise a lowered bidy the first couple of inches, so if its overloaded, it wont even go up, the motor will hum, and the fuse will blow.

You may have a worn seal on the two stage part of the ram, or low oil.
