  1. I filled my barn with timber last year for sale for this winter with the wood I get from tree work, as it will be my first year in selling firewood this winter I was wondering is there away a could get a rough calculation on how many ton bags of firewood I will sell. I presume the best way is to measure is the length x the width x the height to get the square meter of the barn and the same with bags, then divide the square meter size of the barn by the size of the square meter bags size and this should give me a approximate calculation. Is this correct or is there a alternative way. Then Once I've sold a barn full I will no for next year what the true figure will be.
  2. Cheers all, so great in put at the moment. I'm loading with tractor with loading forks so no issue with putting them on the truck or trailer. If I I do barrow bags I I can do 9 bags on there side stacked 3 high by 3wide at a push with strapping down, ( but I don't like doing this, and it has to be a dark night) I worked it out that 3 barrow bags = 1 ton builders bag. I have been tempted to try a landy, but they look like a old been can and you wouldn't really wanna go done south or away on your holls it. ( I can see the mrs face now if I suggested that.)
  3. Morning all this though has been playing on my mind for awhile. I'm currently running a 2005 ford ranger double cab to deliver bags of logs and pull a 10ft trailer and be used for Arb work and going out any were if need be in it. I can get 2 bags on the back of the truck with the tail gate down on small delivers pull them off instead of luging the big trailer round. I was wondering if anyone has had expense with other trucks to see if they can get more than 2 bags on the back of there trucks, and if so what are they.

  7. Just take pallets with you when You need them, there free from many places and when there nakard toss them on the bonfire. Or also get a single bed mattress out off a skip and keep it in the garage and unleash it when it's needed. This is a good one I use this every so often I find it tends to work best when you know someone has died in that bed previously.

  9. Hi all just wondered if any off you have had your heating systems fitted to work with a wood burner aswell. I have a 30year old house with a conventional heating system ( header tank in loft, copper storage tank in airing cupboard, small boiler in kitchen.) I had a stovax wood burner installed 3 years ago, but have decided now that I would like to change the stove for a larger one with a back boiler. I would like to have the stove fitted into the heating system so it heats the water in the tank and radiators in the bedrooms when the fire is lite, but when we are out and no fire lite or up to temp and summer months the heating system trips into the gas boiler to heat the water and house. With being a Tree Surgion I have a endless supply of firewood, so would hope to reep the cost back with a number of years. Have any of you guys had this system fitted and if so any ideas were to look and the price range to be looking at. Thanks Doug

  13. That's great guys think I will be edging more towards the ms460 /461 now . I no you can run a 20/25" bar on a ms660 but i was thinking its a bit over kill and yeehaa, when this saw could be saved for more larger works. I was looking at the 300 range to see if any thing was able for the 20/25" bar weight but was more light weight, especially when dangling the saw on the chog, but if it's the 460/461 that's what it will have to be.
  14. Hi guys I'm looking into getting a good stihl mid range saw. I'm currently running stihl 260's on 18" bars and I'm looking into some of the ms 300 and 400 range saws for Arb work pushing a 20" & 25" bar for chogging and felling purposes . Do you guys have any advise from experience you could recommended or suggest. Doug
  15. Hi all looking at getting a good sized saw to deal with average sized trunk sections . Is there much in it between the 441 or the 461 and what do you guys recommended . I will be looking at running a 20 and 25 inch bar and chain on these saws. Any input would be good to hear.
  16. Hi all. I was wondering if anyone on hear new if this sort of hire fleet exist . I have a few friends in the building trade and they lease power tools from Hilti for a 3 year lease. ( 1x sds hammer drill & 1x nail gun= £30 a month with insurance etc). The policy works you lease the tools for 3 years and after the term you give them back or renew the policy with new equipment. If any tools brake you ring Hilti they send you a replacement the following day and collect urs and repair your tools for free as your insured . Now I was wondering if any one new if stihl do this type of service for Arb work etc as this could be worth looking into.
  17. Hay all just a bit of info required. I've been offered a stihl 088, and I was wondering if this is a good saw to invest in or would it be best to spend the extra cash and buy a ms 880 . If the 088 is a good investment what size bars and chains are good to work with.
  18. Hay arbtech I really like what you have done there with your Iveco daily, I'm looking to getting one after Xmas being of new year and looking in going down the same route s your set up. Would there be any chance you could put up a few more pics from other angles of your truck so I get a idea where to attack it from. Regards doug
  19. Hi all As above I have been doing my fare share of hedge cutting and chainsaw use lately like all you others guys, and I have recently started suffering with a lot of Pins and Needles in my right hand (index finger etc) in my fingertips. Can't really seem to shake it off and was wondering if any of you guys on here have suffered with this problem and found any symptoms to shake it off.
  20. Good to see all mixture of stihls - Huskys on hear. Thanks for the info guys.
  21. Hi all I was just wondering as chainsaws tend to give up the go in time and they can get expensive to run a large selection of saws, what would be the best setup for saws that you guys are running on hear. Im Currently running 2 x ms 200s , 1 x ms 150 , 2 x ms 260s and borrow a ms 660 when its larger sections (but this can be a bit overkill at times) Any advice would be great to hear
  22. Hi All. Im looking into setting up at Stump Grinding Business, I have seen a thew feeds on hear about stump grinding (eg: pricing etc ) but the information i'm looking to find out is below. To set set up a grinding business what equipment would be advised to purchase ie : Vermeer , predator , truck and trailer etc What paperwork docs are required ie: insurance and what cover, and licences. And finally can this be run as solely a grinding business or would I still have to keep my foot in the door with tree and arb work. Any help or info would be appreciated.
  23. Hi all Just wondering if anyone knows on here if there is any adjustment on a 57plate 3.5ton Nissan Cabstar hydraulic tipper ram. The ram operators fine but when it on the last ram it struggles to push out to the top and we have to get the back of the chip box to help slide the chip off. Just wondering if there is a adjustment screw or knob you can turn to improve the flow of hydraulic oil to reach the maximum output Any help and advice would be appreciated.
  24. Hi all. Just been flicking over what 3.5 ton tippers are available for Arb use with chip box and chipper etc and I came across this. The key things I like is the big pole ram behind the cab and it looks like it could carry a good wait with its 4 wheels on the back The Renault Mascott tipper: I was wondering if anyone on here has had us of this tipper for Arb use and if so how did it perform with tipping wood chip, how much load could it carry and did it manage good on most terrains or did it get stuck on a lettuce leaf. I know Renault finished this model in 2010 but I have since seen the cab and chassis has now become the new Renault master.
