Must have been a busy news cycle seeing as I live only 4 hours south of the location. Reads like human error and the owner of the tree service, having someone work that was underage and lacking enough experience to complete the work at hand.

Not sure having standards would have or could have prevented this horrible accident from occurring. Common sense and safety considerations would have gone a long way to prevent this. Both were not present.

Sad story ... I know of a kid in the UK the same age would not go to school so his dad got him involved in work and he nearly cut his fingers off hse involved and they lost all there council contracts and went under ... I really don't get it though as I grew up in the industry and was never allowed to touch a saw unless under strict supervision and again untill I was 18 and had passed my nptc's.. It many ways it helped me as I had much time to pick up the right and wrong ways of doing things and i firmly believe to be a good tree worker you have to do a long aprentaship before being allowed to cut or climb by your self.

All too true. Learn to sweep up before you're allowed to make a mess.
