Tanaka Junk?

Ok, I was pruning some trees in a house this week and there was this gardener guy who told me he had a little saw he never uses, got it from a friend of his apparently, says he'll sell it to me for 80 quid.

 

I looked at it, looks brand new/hardly used, it sounded weird and cut ok but what I need to know is if any of you guys have used a Tanaka and if so are they as much junk as they look?

 

It seemed strangely powerful. But nothing compared to a MS200T

I thought it might be handy as a backup saw, although seriously damaging to my street cred if I was ever seen using it.

never heard of them!!!!! id stay clear unless he'll give it to you cheap as, do you know of anywhere to get it easily fixed and readily avaliable parts??

tanaka are easy enough to get parts for. can't vouch for the chainsaw tockmal, but ive had a hedge trimmer for the past couple years and its been one of the best ive owned, cant fault it mechanically

I have used a Tanaka ground saw,it wa very light and powerfull but I thought it was too lightly built to last.Who knows what they might develop in the future though,the Japanese make excellent cars so they know a fair bit about engines.Honda makes great little motors so who knows?

Anyone know what the little round orange button is on the top right of the handle is for?

 

Please don't tell me it is for manual oiling!

the germans make great cars, vw/audi, lambo, bmw, porsche, bugatti but to name a few and they are all owned by the same group!!!!!

Not bad saws conciddering the price.

 

Tanaka's best products are Blowers, Pole saws and hedgers IMO.

I had a 60cc Tanaka saw once upon a time. It worked quite well.
