Skyhuck, I read through the previous lengthy 20 page thread about WCL yesterday and your stance on this is pretty definite. I'm very interested to know if you have come to your decision on what is deemed waste by info you have gathered from the EA directly or if it is common sense you are relying on (which it appears the EA may not be working with in this case:confused:). Have you applied for a licence under an exemption?

i think it is nonesense, how many gardeners and landscapers carry a liscence. we spend tens of thousands on specialised kit for recycling yet they still want more money. they can come to my yard any day and see the log pile,chip pile and compost pile. i got stopped one day for not having a permit for carrying stuff across a pavement. do you know everyone from gardeners to removal men should have the equivelant of a skip permit when doing this. it is free, but still takes time on paperwork. when i pointed out that down the road there were at least half a dozen tradesman all carrying stuff back and forward, when i asked if they had a permit, he said i can only presume they have. i got my pa to spend every waking minute of the day for a week blanketing every house,street in our town for a month. they soon got fed up with this and didnt bother me again.

wouldnt let them in your yard may open another can of worms, they would be asking if you were a licensed waste transfer site ( that needing yet another bit of paper )

As a farmer I can see why so many have got their knickers in a twist. The legislation came out in 2006 as Agricultural Waste Exemptions but it has also caught the Arb industry. You will need Exemption 21 for Chipping, Exemption 30 for Burning upto 10 tonnes per day. Exemption 12 to turn your woodchip into compost and Exemption 5 if you want to put waste wood on your stove.

I have not and will not be applying for a license. As I don't carry waste

Like it or not a wcl is essential. The EA recently clarified that tree surgeons are require to have one. I strongly disagree with it, another mafia tax but there it is its now in black and white you need to get one or risk a fine.

 

Where has this been clarified as I have just spoken to EA in Sheffield regarding our CHP operation and so long as the tree surgeon is using our IBC containers and selling the woodchip direct to ourselves then a WCL is not required. The invoice to the customer will also declare that you have purchased the tree for a nominal figure and therefore you own the woodchip that has been produced so you are not disposing of the customers waste.

Now now you know we arent supposed to use common sense these days, that was the old British way of doing things

 

 

I wont be renewing mine when it runs out thats for sure!

 

Everyone who has a WCL license is on there database that you can check, how long before they just start sending letters like the TV license people do.

Cheers skyhuck. I struggled to find any meaningful info on the EA site yesterday.

 

 

I've come across this page, really needed to find it a couple of days ago. Somebody had posted the info it gives in the previous WCL thread but I find it helps to see it on the EA site in person.
