Downplating

How feasible is it to downplate a 7 tonne Iveco to 5.75 in order to tow a 2.5 tonne trailer on a C1E with 107 restriction note (standard condition for pre 1997 full licence holders to gross up to 8.25 tonne train weight)?

With a half tonne body and tipping gear it still leaves a useful 3 tonne payload.

Iveco 65c or 52c would be your best best. 65 are fairly common (6.5 tonne) 52 is the same thing plated at 5.2 tonne.

Problem with downplating your 7.5 tonner is you will lose most of your payload.

down plating is usually a paperwork excercise, at the most changing bumpstops, doesnt actually reduce the carrying capacity of the vehicle

Er yes it does! Whatever the plate says is what you can carry, no physical changes to the vehicle but if you downplate it and then load it up to 7.5 tonnes you will be in trouble if you get weighed!

slightly off topic ,,, so i could buy a 5.2t iveco and upgrade the plate to a 6.5t or not ???

Possibly, depends if you can find evidence of the design weight being higher than the plated weight. Much easier to buy a 6.5 though, lots more of them about anyway.
