well it's been quite a while since i've been able to do any work but i'm hoping to be able to get back to do some jobs this summer.

i've turned 4 newel posts (no pictures) in late may which was 4 hours work for the joiner landlord i have and i've just done these two finials for a friend of his.

i was just given a picture and told to make two like that so i drew up the design on paper to use as my rod and used some 6" diameter Opepe wood that i had at work.

took 4 hours in total.

they are to be painted and will go on top of some gateposts.

Ooooh wot ya got? :laola:

So... This story starts over 40 yrs ago as a small child on holiday in Dunkirk, i bought a shell case from flea market for 20 francs (  they had sold out on fleas)  which then languished in Dads shed until he died ......

..... Had always wanted to make the shell case that would have fitted in there to give it historical significance  ( I think it would have been the famous French 75 - quick firing gun, forerunner of more modern artillery from WW1 )  so on recently getting my new small bench lathe and an old oak table leg......

I did.. ?      so now the houseclearance people will get a shock when i pass on   ? K
