i finally finished a rolling pin i was asked to make before the move and it's now with a happy customer.

24" long is a big rolling pin.

The rolling pin is for my wife, she makes birthday cakes etc so wanted a large rolling pin for the icing she has to do. The rolling pin is superb and exactly what she wanted. Steve is a top notch guy to deal with.

the meels start out looking like this. you can see the square sections behind it then i turn it to the cylinder you see here and then glue in a handle and leave for a few days to dry.

and yes, they are old snooker table legs and are genuine mahogany hence why they look so good...

to a degree. the legs are made of two halves and you can't have a joint going up the length of the handle which can be as little as 28mmm wide meaning that the strength really is only as good as 14mm and nowhere near enough for swinging.

there is also a length issue as the middle legs have a huge notch out of them are simply not long enough. even corner legs have plenty of holes for bolting the things together. another plus means that you don't get any surprises when you turn down the wood and find an old knot or something like that which would mean it could not be swung. i turn the handles from the offcuts so there is very little waste.
