New lad to the trade

Hello all and please remember I'm a newby to this excellent site and a biff with computers.

I am about to go on an intense 1 month tree surgery course and although the company provides all equipment necessary I would like to turn up with my own boots, helmet and gloves. Having looked on the internet the amount of different kit is mind boggling.

Could someone advise me on a decent helmet, boots and gloves to buy as a beginner and the name of a company to buy them from in the Somerset area?

Thanks

Andy

Hi bud, welcome to the forum! There are so many makes of kit out there that you would be best going to a local shop and trying the different helmets, boots and gloves on for fit and comfort. Try and google chainsaw suppliers in your area.

George Carrs in Bristol have a lot of kit (at least they used to when I lived down there many moons ago) - it might be worth a drive out. As said, try different stuff on. If you are going to be a climber I would stay away from the basic forestry helmets with chin straps and pick a proper climbing lid personally. And you'll need all round protection in your trousers if you intend using a chainsaw up a tree too (be prepared to be amazed at how hot they are!). Good luck and welcome to the forum.
