chip weight?

Hi Guys,

 

This subject has probably been covered so forgive me for asking again, but how much does wood chip weigh?

 

I know that different species will weigh more/less per m3, and rain etc. will have an effect, but what would be considered the maximum weight per cubic meter, for normal tree surgery chippings within European species?

Why not get a bowl full and weigh on kitchen scales then work it out to a cubic meter? That might work;)

I calculated dry beech at about 1/3 ton per m3.

When its in the back of the truck the compressed stuff at the bottom of the pile is probably more.

 

Has anyone on here used a weighbridge ? Surely that would be a definitive answer-

say 3.4 tons with 4 mtrs on, 2.1 after empying etc.....

I've been told that on average a cubic meter of wet chip is around 400kgs.

3 to 4 m3 to the tonne , with dry wood i.e. fuel woodchip at 4m3 per tonne

Thanks guys, so a chip box that holds upto 4-5 cube would be the maximum on a 3.5t gwt truck? Given a payload of about 1.5t.

3 cu metres to be legal 5 cube will give about 2.5 tonnes on a wet day.

I think a 3 cube box it will be, no chance of over loading accidentally that way.

Which 3.5t truck has a 1.5t payload??????

 

Most are between 500 and 1000KG.
