I'm dreaming of... A big machine that will...

Pulverise everything on the ground...

I'm not meaning a forestry subsoiler on a dozer but imagining a tractor with some uncompromising flail device on the rear. I once saw a tractor working on the coastal sites with a machine that was obliterating everything in sight - I would guess it would smash up anything up to 4" timber. The name on the thing was "Whoppa Choppa" - don't laugh!! Maybe Spearhead make something like it too? Basically in need of hiring in someone / something that will turn the crap on the floor after a land clearance into dust - any ideas?

Saw a borrowed one in action in mid-Devon about three years ago, owned by someone near there with apple orchards to maintain. Was actually being used to level deep wheel ruts rather than mulching. Want me to make enquiries? Was on the back of a 120-odd hp M-F.

Yeah you require a forestry mulcher either on a dedicated base like the ahwi on tracks, or one of many that fit on rear drive large tractors i.e fendt etc.

Depending on the site beware of flying debris, despite what you'll be told it'll fly everywhere.

Depending on what material you are mulching and the volumes involved you may need an excavator with a brash rake working with the mulcher wind rowing the material.

Thanks for all your help everyone, it's most helpful and I can at least explain the process to the client. The area had been cleared of v dense overgrowth, wood extracted, brash chipped thus leaving some remaining hawthorne, elder, ivy, creeper etc which looks like a sea of frith 12-18" high over an area of approx 7 acres. Just need to flatten the lot. Will be in touch etc.:001_smile:
