Yep its that time of year again,what potions and lotions do the guys and gals on here use to prevent getting bit,i use jungle formula about a fiver from Tesco,its ok but not brilliant ,what do you recommend.:scared1::scared1::

I've been bitten plenty of times by them. They do hurt but I have just learned to ignore them I guess. I ft hey going to get you there's not much you can do about it.

 

I don't have any protection as I have learnt that nothing actually works, after bite is ok for later. Soothes the bite a bit.

After Bite does help.

 

What are they called locally?

 

Back home (Northumberland) we call them Cleggs.

 

Down here (Kent) they are simply horse flies.

I also react badly. Dirty bastids!

Nothing really for prevention, I think there is a supplement you can takes that makes you less attractive too them. Will get back to you on that.

I have Anthasan and also an antihistamine called telfast for swelling in my first aid box. It's pretty good.

As for 'man up' Rich, last year my forearm swelled up enough I couldn't bend my elbow, so it's no craic at all. We call em cleggs or dung flys, mostly with a lot of f words in front!
