zig zag failure?

Shoot me down if this is silly .... Could you attach the eye ( the bit that failed in the picture ) with a termination knot of your preference ( bunt line or bowline or whatever ) and not use a bina then there would be no chance of it side loading etc ???

Although it would be too hard on the rope, if the attachment point was designed for a textile attachment it would be ok.

Of course tying and untying is boring.

I think that the most sensible advice is to just keep it all in line and keep slack out of the system, just like they teach in college.

I climb SRWP with a Hitch Hiker but if I don't pay attention and keep the device neat, the biner will rotate a bit and could put enormous loads on side plates of the HH.

Although many of the climbing gadgets and systems are very different, one factor remain constant: the necessity to be diligent and alert at all times.

I inspect all my gear before I climb and constantly whilst climbing.

First day of climbing on it since this came to light. Found that it's taken the enjoyment out of using it a bit as I am constantly checking that top attachment point. It now does look to me like it should be made a bit beefier.

It shows that leverage, like friction, can be your friend or your enemy!

This is a major commercial embarrassment for Petz and could be very expensivel But they had no alternative. If they had dithered it could have been much worse. I can't see there being an easy retrofit so the only option is a total recall and an eventual replacement with a ZZ2. I suspect though, for many climbers, the allure of a ZZ may have dulled somewhat.
