Mate I'm from the farming community, so don't speak to me about life experience, losses, suicide etc, farmers have had it as bad as the miners got it but for alot longer, I know people who have lost thier entire lifes work through foot and mouth or TB, farming has the highest suicide rate of any industry in hte UK, mining is not the only industry thats been affected by government, so have our fishing, steel and car building industries :001_cool:

Granted so why would you defend Thatcher??

Yes all those ex miners, dockers et al. All rushing out to go on an amazon to buy a tune, a track or whatever they call it now. The red flag is flying here allright. It will mainly be kids due to Twatter and Facetube hype.

They should tax the people who buy this and call it the plonker tax.

As for not having much life experience, why would you want to go to an old mining community and listen to all that, it's depressing. Those people who still do are living in the last century, literally. It was all going the way of the pear anyway. The ones who are still in the same predicament are the ones who were not able/willing to adapt to change which was inevitable.

Very poor attacking a brothers "manness" mate.

I could'nt agree with you more, but the reason for the hateful society and selfishness & greed can be attributed directly with thatcherism:thumbdown:

I think that is a gross oversimplification of the problems we have today. While I don't doubt that Thatcherism contributed, I would argue that there were many other factors which have led to the selfish, petty and spiteful behaviour which is all too prevalent now.

I'm not defending her, what I'm saying is she had the balls to do what she thought was right, same as Churchill did, unlike any politician we've had since who can talk us all dizzy and still end up doing nothing :001_cool:

Can I answer that?

Because it's not her fault.

Consumers want cheap produce, that's what has knackered farming, and supermarkets have screwed us to the floor.

Many youth don't want to work, not when benefits can provide an acceptable standard of living with no work.

New Labour completely sold the entire rural community and economy down the river.

She tackled, head on, the biggest problem we had, and still have, in this country, which is this unreasonable (socialist) sense of entitlement, this attitude that I want, gets.

Unfortunately for both her and the decent blokes who didn't support the union line, lots of collateral damage occurred when she took them out.

I have the deepest sympathy for the miners who just wanted to work, but were threatened in their homes by vile, greedy unionists who once were friends, colleagues and often even relatives. No one who wants to do an honest day's work should ever suffer what they did.

But the fact that this happened says more about the despicable attitudes and approach of the unions than it does for the elected members who had no choice but to deal with them for the sake of the millions of others who inhabit this country. :001_smile:

She said something that i think is very wise and it was long after she retired.

"These days politicians think because they have made a speech something has happened. It hasn't. They've just made a speech"

I think all the muppets who think they are policy makers no matter what the party should take stock. They are all about catchphrases and banter but no action. She wasn't. You always knew that if she said she did.

None of these modern politicians know that to be a truly great statesman you are not going to please everyone.
