Hi Jon, I've got a Clarke one from machine mart, can't remember exact model, was the bigger one with compressor on it, have used it to jump start tractor and bobcat and its still going strong despite diving off the back of the bobcat and smashing the casing

I`ve got a couple of them, a snap on one not sure on model but had it about 12 years and still seams OK, dont use it every day but keep it charged ready to go. also got a clark 12/24volt one, and thats OK as well, its about 3years old, again keeping it charged up.

I was told as a rough guide the heavier they are, the better the battery. Also check the leads, as some have quite short leads, or thin with poor clamps.

I would buy either of mine again depending, on the price snap on would want for one now.

I'd get one from whoever offers the best warranty personally. It'll be the battery that lets it down in the end unless you drop it or run it over. We've had a few from Costco - probably not the best around but when they stop working there is never any quibble in swapping for a new one.

The Snap on ones are the dogs ... Yeah they start all the tractors at work untill you get to the new JD 7260R's and that takes allot also someone has a oldish back bluepoint one not quite as good but its up there

Maybe I'm just being thick, but surely just a spare battery kept charged up is as good as owt?

 

I have a battery that came off one of the tractors that I keep charged up and decent set of jump leads and it does the job.
