Quick reply I'll be interested in your opinions on said machine as I had demo of tracked machine 22/3/13 and thought it a good unit

 

What was the tracking like, bumpy? fast? Hard on hands holding levers?

Matt from Redwood brought the Forst tow-along out to play today and I must say, I was mightily impressed.

I could write endlessly about the details but that's boring so I'll just list the highlights.

 

1. Superb controls for the emergency stop/reverse.

2. The top roller moves up and over (not up & down) so large diameter wood will be accepted better.

3. Stronger chassis.

4. Engine cover is one piece so when lifted, the entire engine is accessible.

5. Replaceable parts have better access. i.e. bearings, oil filter, fuel filters.

6. Easier to use discharge spout.

7. Solid mounts for the engine. This means the exhaust won't snap after 6 months.

8. Stronger jockey wheel assembly.

9. Slightly greater distance between axle and hitch so reversing is easier and safer.

10. LED lights.

11. Better support under the hopper.

12. Reinforcement in known weak spots.

13. Can't remember.

14. 3yr warranty!

15. External grease nipples.

 

I believe (and the majority would agree) the Jensen is the best small chipper on the market. What Redwood have done is take all the annoying little niggles off the Jensen and the result is the Forst.

 

If I was in the market for another chipper, I'd buy the Forst instantly. This is without question, THE BEST SMALL CHIPPER available now. It's as if tree surgeons have designed it to be just right to use and easy to work on in a small, poorly lit workshop. Honestly perfect!

 

Just my opinion of course (& I have used the other brands, before anyone gets upset).

According to Redwood, no. They will continue as Jensen dealers with full support.

There are thousands of Jensen machines in this country that need to continue. Apparently, Jensen are supportive of Redwood building the Forst.

 

I think Matt said that 49 Forst machines are already sold so people seem to have confidence.

Don't forget that Redwood's backup with the work shop and their spare parts is second to none.

Oh, just remembered another good thing.

The buttons on the hopper aren't buttons but sensors so they are super easy to use even if you're wearing gauntlets for handling blackthorn.

Apparently they are the same buttons that are used on trains which means they're tried, tested and durable. They've been an option with Jensen for years but this is the first time they come as standard.

The emergency stop bar is better mounted too so it won't bend like every other Jensen bar in history.

BIG improvement.
