You would probably need to use a very hot knife to fold in melted plastic - many epoxy resins degrade with fuel and are not suitable to use for repair.

Make sure the repair is a solid one as leaking fuel is obviously a fire hazzard!

If you can get hold of a hot air gun with a small nozzle you can have some success with that . Not always pretty but works . Even better if you have an old gash tank you can cut some strips off for welding rod .....Done it myself once .

make sure you have got rid of all the petrol fumes before heating it !!

leave the cap off while doing it otherwise you will have a hole to fill!!!

my 357 is a bit damp along the seam also, think i will just buy a new tank.

I was once told about using a hot knife and strimmer cord to weld up cracks, splits and holes

if you are plastic welding make shore you degrease the surface well i normally put a v grove along the crack then heat it up with a hot air plastic welder the important thing is to use the same type of plastic to make shore it bonds properly. I have not repaired a husky tank but have repaired a few strimmer tanks without any problems

hope this helps
