on tonight's programme had a bit on the hedgelaying comp at highgrove home of prince Charles. he was laying some hedge. and saw some top cutters in action Alan ashby of kent laying south of england good to see on main stream telly.

did you get a invite Dorset. doing many styles.

I would have watched it except for the sight of that tranny Julia Bradbury going all goo-goo eyes at that arch prat Charles!

Twas a great programme...Prince Charles' jacket great to see it on Tv...some beautiful styles using Billhook...great Skill:thumbup:

Not watched it yet but my landlord was invited along with his dad and a few others. His dad stuart ford and another old boy frank were given an award by charles for long services to hedgelaying (or a similarly named award..) . We were hoping it would be included on the show ( i guess not!)

have to say Charles is all for his hedgelaying and has a comp every year at his estate for invited cutters. most being supreme cutters in there own right. and he looks after them all with hot food and coffee laid on plus trophy's . but Charles is a very good hedge layer and if any one needs someone in high places to promote these things then all power to his cutting elbow. plus it may get some work for cutters after tonight so it is all good telly in this respect.

the bloke who taught him was speaking to my landlord and said he had layed around 6 or 700 metres so far and he is very competent!

i also heard about his nice coat silky

yes the trailer did not show it very well and the clip was not very long. could have given a bit more time over to the hedgelaying and less on the other stuff.

but the producers are trying to sell to the townies. what the country is like and sometimes forget that there are people who would like to see some of the documentaries a bit longer and more in depth to put it over better. i sure there is over a hours of filming now siting in the waste bin not shown. have a chat to a guy i know see if he can get me a uncut version of the hedgelaying. see who i can recognize.
