honeybrothers.co.uk in the rope section, cant seem to get a URL

Says at the start of the description: premium 3-strand climbing rope, often coveted by arborist who like the feel and working characteristics of a traditional line.

But at the end says:This product is NOT certified to any standard so it must not be used as climbing rope or as PPE!

All to confusing for me, but would love to have a go.

You should get some, and a Barrow Hepburn GT harness, then use it all with a three knot system, and at the top of the tree you will meet my friend PAIN.

Or you could go further back in time and plat your pubes to make a rope:laugh1:

:001_tongue: waaay before my time......

Was it really that hard back in the good ol'days :thumbup1:

I was posh back then cos I had some things called Karabiners that I nicked out if my rock climbing kit!

It wasnt hard back then, it was just how it was, but none of the kit was safety rated, why would you want it to be? Its either strong enough or it isnt. All too wrapped up in paperwork these days but loler and all that crap doesnt make the job any different.

The main problem with that three strand is that its very stretchy, so you could climb with slack ropes and be ok in the event of a little fall, but it was very hard work pulling your self up against the stretch, but the friction of rope over branch made it a bit easier. But you basicallly climbed the tree and clung as best as possible while cutting etc. I didnt have a side strop for at least 10 years! (I had the option of both ends of rope of course)

Move on to semi static ropes, add a two ring cambium saver (possibly the greatest advance in tree climbing ever) and the whole thing changed to proper work positioning and the styles we have today, but then it just got more and more complicated and expensive.
