MS660 vs MS880

Hi guys, still deciding on saw, ordered a ms880 but thinking of changing mind. it will be an every day saw mainly running on 25in bar. If any one can offer any help on deciding i would be greatful.

046 mate all the way. as steve b said the big saw will sit in the shed most of its life. i bet there is someone on here that is close to you with one you could borrow or hire if you got stuck.

I went for the 660 with a 25 and 36 inch bar. The main reason for me was that it more manageable in the tree with than an 880. I have taken down some pretty big things with it over the years and don't regret my choice.

if youre using a big saw in the tree, its gonna be at the end of the day-dont really want an 880 up there!

 

880 for the ground ringing up fooooking big stuff! 660 copes with pretty much everything anyway

660 with a 30in, or a 460 with a 25. 880 is only for huge trees in my books. I seldom have come across a tree that needs one

Frankly-these days, any stems you drop ( needing an 88 ) really aught to be lifted off site in one- It is a huge waste of time-and messy, ringing up an carrying the stem out, still gets done by every one but on jobs where a hiab comes in it just speeds it all up so much. This depends on how organised the company / job is but mostly I would think you wld be happy with a 66,

what if the job hasnt access for big kit like cranes and lorrys?

i run a 272 and a ms460 for big stuff only ever needed to hire a big saw a couple times over the last 8 year. i would get a 66 or 88 if was cutting big stuff everyday but dont see the need as heavy and drink the juice and found big bar not needed most of the time

660 really big saws dont see the light of day enough to warrant the outlay imo
