Chain sharpening. Am I doing something wrong?

I find as a chain is sharpened back to near the guide marks the file starts filing the chain links. I am filing with a secondary angle of 10 degrees as believe this to be correct for the chain but have noticed in online videos many do not bother with this 10 degree secondary angle and just do the main cutting angle. The chain is an Oregan 21 LPX. Am I doing something wrong?

As said, the easiest way is to switch down a file size when nearing the end of the chains life.

I do regularly file at 10 degrees off flat which brings the file out of contact with the tie straps but i always file freehand - it may be more difficult if using a file guide.
