handicap climbing

hi,

im curious about setting up a climbing system that would be useful for those with minor or severe disabilities

perhaps the individual has one hand or is paralyzed from the waste down.

The system doesnt have to be worked by them it can be worked by me from the ground but just a simple, safe and steady way of getting someone in the crown using rope and harness.

pics and descriptions would be much appreciated.

many thanks

Throw line over branch clip one end to harness and other end to pick up truck then roar off! Quickest way I have ever seen someone get up a tree without having todo anything. On a serious note you could install a pull saver then add another pulley into the becket of the pinto pulley feed the tail end or your rope threw that pulley and you can haul them up. I'm sure someone will have a picture of this set up!

Mate, insurance will probably be the big issue here, i'v got a prolapsed disc and a didget (thumb) thats fussed like a stick, i'd say depending of the extent of the disability will very much depend on if you can get insurance or if you even declare the disability . But good luck sorry i can't provide good input. On another point knowing how strong minded ex service personal are and the ability that they do have to over come injuries such as total limb loss and being ex services my self i have often thought how great it would be to get involved with anyone with such disabilities to help them in the industry knowing the physical and mental rewards that can be had. Armed forces personal whether able bodied or disabled or mentally challenged are the cream of our country and have the strange ability to adapt and over come.

As well as insurance, you will probably have to register with your local authority, and you will have to have a CRB check, even if you only intend to work with adults. Adults with a handicap are, and I hate to use this expression, classed as vunerable, therefore you'll need a CRB check to make sure your not the sort of person to take advantage of vunerable people.

Sorry I can't offer you some more practical advice in answer to response your original question.

It is a nice idea though, and wish you every success with it. Keep us update on this forum with how you get on.

Thanks for all the input so far, I would like to explain that this is not for a business as of yet more just an idea to help out people I may know that are disabled. So crb checks are probably not needed as of yet. I've looked at 4:1 pully systems but don't know if that's enough yet. I may need 6:1.
